The Theory Test
The theory test is divided into two parts and takes place in front of a computer at the local theory test centre.
Both parts must be passed in the same sitting. In the first part you will be presented with 50 multiple choice questions and one or more case studies on which some of the questions will be based. Many of the questions can be answered easily using "common sense", others using information picked up during the practical lessons. The pass mark is 43.
To prepare fully for this part several organisations produce discs (obtainable from many outlets) which contain the up to date question bank, plus a guide to the hazard perception test. Getting one is definately recommended.
The second part is the hazard perception test. On the screen you wil view fourteen film clips portraying everyday traffic situations where you need to identify and respond to developing hazards by immediately clicking a computer mouse. The sooner you respond to the hazard the more you score, up to a maximum of 5 points for each hazard. 75 points are available (15 hazards). 44 is the pass mark.
